Mission

ElderCare of Alachua County

Our mission is to be an advocate for the elderly and provide services that will build capacity, maximize independence, and enrich the quality of life for the seniors in Alachua County and north central Florida.

ElderCare of Alachua County is committed to raising money and awareness of the services and programs needed to enable seniors to remain independent in their own home for as long as they are able to.

We are a 100 percent grant- and donation-funded agency.

Your financial generosity and volunteer efforts allow us to serve:

  • Meals at five Alachua County meal sites (Gainesville, Archer, High Springs, Newberry, & Waldo)
  • Home-delivered meals to homebound seniors M-F!

Other services during the year include:

  • Al’z Place: Al’z Place is a specialized adult day care program dedicated to providing compassionate care and enriching activities for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Our program is designed to offer a safe and supportive environment where participants can engage in cognitive and physical activities, socialize with peers, and receive the care they need. We also provide respite for caregivers, allowing them time to rest while knowing their loved ones are in good hands.
  • Homemaking Services: Our Homemaking Services are tailored to assist seniors in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment. We offer support with daily household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and shopping. These services are designed to help seniors live independently in their homes for as long as possible.
  • Transportation Services: ElderCare of Alachua County provides reliable transportation options through our Freedom in Motion Uber partnership and MV Transport collaboration. These services offer seniors the freedom to travel to medical appointments, social activities, grocery shopping, and other essential errands. Our goal is to enhance mobility and independence for seniors who may have limited transportation options.
  • Senior Recreation Center: The Senior Recreation Center is a vibrant hub of activity and social engagement for the elder community in Alachua County. We offer a wide range of recreational activities, fitness classes, educational programs, and social events designed to keep seniors active, healthy, and connected. The center serves as a welcoming space where seniors can explore new interests, meet new friends, and enjoy a rich and fulfilling lifestyle.
  • Meals on Wheels: Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals to seniors through both congregate meal sites and home-delivered meals. Our program ensures that seniors have access to balanced, healthy meals, whether they are dining with others in a community setting or receiving meals directly at home. This service not only helps maintain seniors’ physical health but also provides regular social interaction and a safety check for those living alone.
  • Home and Community Based Services: Our Home and Community Based Services offer a range of personal and community support to individuals aged 60 and older. These services include assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and medication management, as well as support with accessing community resources. Our goal is to help seniors live with dignity and independence in their own homes, while also staying connected to their community.
  • Independence with Low Vision: The Independence with Low Vision program provides specialized training and support for adults and seniors who have experienced severe vision loss or blindness. Our services include individualized training in the use of adaptive devices, techniques for daily living, and mobility skills to help those with low vision maintain their independence and continue to live full, active lives.
